Boards of Fir wood, which feature a prominent grain pattern, are brushed with a wire brush to remove soft wood and allow the harder, more dense grain patterns to remain in relief. The boards are inked using a roller, applying a gradient shade of blue, which is printed onto Japanese paper. Separate boards with different grain patterns are inked and printed in layers, creating an effect that resembles water. Each print is unique. There are myriad variations that I have yet to explore!
