Prickly Pear

Soft Pastel on Paper

Andalucía, Spain, 2005

If you have ever encountered the enticing, lush, jewel-like fruit of the Prickly Pear Cactus, (variously called higo de chumbo, chumbera, tuna, nopal) you know that it is armoured with near-invisible, tiny spines that prick and stick in your skin. Really, you cannot hold it in your hand like this.
