Pandemic Paintings

Oil on Canvas

12 x 12 in./ 30 x 30 cm

2020

I did not set out to make things related to the Pandemic, it just happened.

Working daily in front of my window lined with houseplants, listening to news update after news update, I became enamored of the play of sunlight on my (miss-matched) curtains and decided to make a painting.

Soon I began to see the imagery as a metaphor for the distancing and masking of our present experience. The plants are hidden, occasionally revealed; their shadows on the curtains providing a distorted hint of their (masked) presence.
