Bio
"I was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada but have spent most of my life in the U.S.A. I attended the University of Massachusetts/ Boston then Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts where I met and studied with New York City painter Paul Georges.
The first solo show of my paintings was at Bromfield Gallery, Boston. The show was favourably reviewed in the regional publication Art New England. I continued showing regularly in the Boston area, often choosing non-gallery venues. My objective was to bring the work to a broader audience than that which visits art galleries. The feedback that I received from these shows was honest, enthusiastic and heartfelt.
After many years in the Boston area I moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 2004. In Cleveland I discovered a lively artist community.
I continued painting and exhibiting and began working increasingly in linocut printmaking. The Cleveland Museum of Art purchased the Ebb suite of linocuts.
In 2007 I moved back to Toronto, the city where I grew up. In 2008
I was honoured to receive a generous Individual Support Grant from the Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation and the following year I was granted an inspiring one-year fellowship at Open Studio printmaking cooperative, allowing for deeper exploration of printmaking media. This year finds me back in the USA for a three-month residency at the Wurlitzer Foundation in New Mexico, for which I have received additional support from the Ontario Arts Council.”
